We had a great night at the NFocus Runway for the Roses Fashion Show at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage benefiting Horses and Hope!  http://www.horsesandhope.org/

Gunnar Deatherage from Project Runway Season 10 and Louisville native put the show together with clothing from Dillard's.

More on the show from a real writer, Cameron Miquelon.

A brief mention of Bourbon Barrel Rehab in the Courier Journal about some items we donated to Missy Rowe and John Hillock for their Bourbon themed basement!

We also donated a side table for a silent auction benefiting The St John Center for homeless men.  If you would like to donate to this great cause go to www.stjohncenter.org

So what's the difference?   Do we also use whiskey barrels?  What's the difference between whiskey and whisky?

Here are some answers.  These links are both to wikipedia so take some of the info with a grain of salt but they are generally on the money.  And yes, we have whisky (or whiskey) barrels at times and even some wine barrels!

Functional Art.  These Bourbon Barrel Head Guest Books will eventually hang on the wall of the couples who got married last weekend!

We had the great luck to be called by our friend Stephanie at Green Lady Studio in Louisville to help out with the decor for the Kentucky Bourbon Lodge at The Forecastle Festival this year.  Kathy Schmitt at Crescent Hill Trading Company provided many of the interesting decor items too!  My Morning Jacket was the headliner on Saturday night and Wilco ended the weekend with an amazing light show.  Lucky to live and work in this great town!

We've gotten some calls asking about custom barrel heads and a few of the people are upset over pricing.  I guarantee that our products are all 100% real bourbon barrel heads taken from bourbon barrels emptied right here in Kentucky.

Once the head is taken off the barrel it practically falls apart because they are individual pieces held together with wood pegs and the pressure of the staves and hoops.  For wedding guest books and signs we take the time to clean them, sand, clamp and glue them, and reinforce them so they won't fall apart.  We also back them with black felt so they won't scratch your walls or whatever surface you put them on.   All of our work (wood craft and wood burning) is meticulously done by hand and we are very proud of that fact.

If you do buy from someone else because they are cheaper, make sure before you hit the 'buy' button that you are getting the real thing and not a 'faux' barrel head!  Just because it comes from a name you may know doesn't mean it's real.

From the Business Lexington...
"By investing in the arts, businesses gain media attention, leverage advertising dollars and earn brand recognition. Some businesses have chosen to provide support through active engagement with local arts organizations, volunteering time and lending their business expertise and leadership skills. Businesses are discovering that by contributing to the arts they can also support social causes in which the arts are integrally involved. The recognition given for business support typically feeds back across business functions from sales to employee recruitment and community relations. This enables businesses to support the arts as well as use the arts to meet business goals, expand markets for products, and engage employees."

We went to the Kentucky Crafted Market yesterday to see what other artists are doing around the state.  Interesting.  Pottery, jewelry, glass are all very popular.  Too popular, it seems.  There were some very cool people hand forging and some very nice woodworkers but not one doing anything with bourbon barrels.  Nice.
