Bernie Lubbers aka The Whiskey Professor and Brand Ambassador at Heaven Hill (former BA at Jim Beam) is a friend who we have hung out with a bit and worked for, both via work we have done for Heaven Hill Distillery and for him personally. He contacted us earlier this week and asked if it was ok that he include us in an article he was writing. Well, duh. So, here it is. Thanks Bernie!

We are privileged to be working with the Van Winkle family for the past few months on a special project for Pappy & Co. run by the daughters of Julian Van Winkle.
We took 20 Pappy Van Winkle 15 year barrels apart and made custom barrel heads hand wood burned with Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery Family Reserve and a famous Pappy saying "Asleep many years in the wood." Each came with a Certificate of Authenticity, wood burned with the barrel number, fill date and the dump date. Each Certificate and barrel head were also signed by Julian Van Winkle.
These first 40 barrel heads sold out quickly but we are looking forward to the next barrels to be dumped early next year. For more information and to get your own Pappy merchandise go to www.pappyco.com!
Some comments from www.pappyco.com about the barrel heads:
We started this business 3 years ago and there were only a handful of people making art out of barrels. Now there are bunches of people making things left and right. A few of them even dog us on their websites and pages. That's fine with us. The quality of our work, attention to detail and passion for bourbon, barrels, art and integrity is what matters.
We use each and every part of the barrel down to the sawdust. We make each and every piece by hand. Design, hand sanding, nailing, wood burning, everything. That is what sets us apart. No one does what we do, how we do it.
It is said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. We are flattered to death. Thank you to all of our loyal customers for standing behind us.
Wow! That's all I can say. What a fantastic weekend of music and bourbon. If you haven't heard of Forecastle you may very well have been living under a rock . Rolling Stone Magazine has named the fest one of the 33 coolest festivals. ("Forecastle Festival Success". Rolling Stone Magazine. July 2012) Click here to find out a little more about the Forecastle Foundation. http://forecastlefest.com/foundation/
According to Fred Minnick, author, photographer and journalist, Forecastle just became bourbon's most important festival, beating out the Kentucky Bourbon Festival because it's hitting a whole new target market. http://fredminnick.com/forecastle-just-became-the-worlds-most-important-bourbon-festival/ And we are proud to have contributed a small part to the effort. Big thanks to Stephanie Lindsay of Green Lady Studio for having faith that we could create her vision for this years Bourbon Lodge.
Rocky Mountain wedding planner, Kelly Karli - Frosted Pink Weddings, has a blog and she featured Bourbon Barrel Rehab! Check it out here.

We had a great night at the NFocus Runway for the Roses Fashion Show at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage benefiting Horses and Hope! http://www.horsesandhope.org/
Gunnar Deatherage from Project Runway Season 10 and Louisville native put the show together with clothing from Dillard's.
More on the show from a real writer, Cameron Miquelon.
Sponsors included Lenihan/Sotheby's as well as Glass Label, Bourbon Barrel Rehab, Korbel, Old 502 Winery and and Lite 106.9.
Bourbon Barrel Rehab provided 4 used bourbon barrel bars, 10 used bourbon barrels and 2 half barrels to use as part of the decor.
If you have an event coming up, please give us a call!
The Runway for the Roses is one of the first events kicking off Kentucky Derby season in Louisville. Such an exciting time in this little town! We're even more excited because we are a sponsor of the event this year! The event benefits Horses for Hope, who provides training in horsemanship and therapeutic horseback riding for people with disabilities (physical, mental, emotional, speech, and learning) and for persons diagnosed with debilitating or life-threatening illnesses. Tickets are still available for the event. Go to www.nfocusmagazine.com for ticket information. Please also go to www.horsesforhope.org to help this great non-profit.
A brief mention of Bourbon Barrel Rehab in the Courier Journal about some items we donated to Missy Rowe and John Hillock for their Bourbon themed basement!
We also donated a side table for a silent auction benefiting The St John Center for homeless men. If you would like to donate to this great cause go to www.stjohncenter.org
We're taping our first TV segment tomorrow! Pretty exciting! Jeff has never been on TV before so it should be interesting. We will post information on the air date as soon as we get it. If you're in Louisville and have nothing to do from about noon to 2 stop by. The Bourbon Lounge is taped in front of a live audience. Reply or email us if you want more details!
As we mentioned a week or so ago on Facebook, we are going to be on TV!! If you're not busy on February 23rd (and live in Louisville) come by Equus/Jack's Lounge at 12:30 and be a part of the studio audience for The Bourbon Lounge! "Family and friends are welcome on set; we tape in front of a live studio audience so the more the merrier. Due to the nature of the show and city ordinances children should not be allowed on set."
